The 6 checks, and why each one matters

Clients decide whether to keep reading in the first couple of lines. This tool scores your proposal against the six things they notice first. Here is what each one means.

1. Opening line. A generic "Dear Hiring Manager" reads as a template and gets skipped. Lead with the client's problem, not your background.
2. The 220-character preview. Upwork shows the client only your first two lines before a "more" link, so your sharpest, most specific sentence has to sit there.
3. Human, not AI. Phrases like "leverage," "robust," and "excited to deliver best-in-class results" read as low-effort spam. Plain and specific wins.
4. Personalised, not a template. If it could be pasted into any job with the name swapped, the client can tell. Name their actual project.
5. Length and mobile-friendly. Most clients skim on a phone. Keep it to two or three short paragraphs with the important part first.
6. A clear next step. "Let me know if you have any questions" puts the work back on them. Ask one specific thing instead.
